FERGUS – It’s ironic that St. James Anglican Church in Fergus had to buy butterflies to populate the butterfly garden it installed behind the historic church on Queen Street.

FERGUS – Addison Hill only lived to be 14 years old, but she has left her mark on this community.

ELORA – Elora may be getting another grocery store. At a public planning meeting on June 28, Scott Patterson, of Patterson Planning Consultants, explained that the owner of property at 22 Park Road, and 82 and 92 Wellington Road 7, is seeking to build a commercial development on the site.

CENTRE WELLINGTON – Taxes could be increasing by six per cent in 2024, although councillors hope staff will be able to reign that in to 4.5% as work gets underway.

ELORA - An artist’s rendering for a proposal at 19 Mill Street East in Elora didn’t do a proponent any favours. Oxford Green Riverside Developments is proposing a multi-faceted development that would sit on the south side of Mill Street East at Geddes Street in Elora.

CENTRE WELLINGTON - It will come as a relief for people who live in the termite zone that the township will be taking on termite management rather than leaving individuals to deal with termites on their own.

ELORA – By public toilet standards, the new one in Elora’s Hoffer Park is pretty posh. It’s wheelchair accessible; has anti-graffiti walls; the toilet, sink and hand dryer are all touch-free; and, most impressively, it’s self-cleaning.

ELORA – Food Day Canada was born in Elora, so it’s only fitting that Elora will host a kick-off event to mark the 20th anniversary of the national celebration of Canadian food, farmers and food producers.

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The township has worked out a deal with Wellington County to resume once-a-week garbage pickup in downtown Elora and Fergus.

BELWOOD – The West Garafraxa works garage will act as a temporary post office for Belwood residents until Canada Post finds a permanent solution.

MOUNT FOREST – One might think that with ‘forest’ right in its name, the town of Mount Forest would be focused on protecting its trees – especially the trees that are more than 100 years old.

CENTRE WELLINGTON – The downtown areas in Fergus and Elora are about to grow "up." Council approved two zoning amendments at its June 26 meeting allowing four-storey apartment buildings to be constructed in the two downtown cores.

ELORA – In their final good deed of the school year, Grade 8 students at Elora Public School are holding a car wash in support of Team Addy, which in turn will give those proceeds and more to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children.

PUSLINCH – Another train sparked another grass fire along the track that runs through Arkell and that has neighbours up in arms about occurrences they call “frequent” and about the potential for the fires to spread.
