ARTHUR – Faye Craig has been named Wellington North’s Senior of the Year, in recognition of her “outstanding contributions to the community after age 65.” Formally recognized by council on June 28, Craig has long been an active member in her community.

Teacher providing bike repairs in support of Portage Elora
ELORA – Todd Willoughby, a physical and outdoor education teacher from Elora, is providing repairs, tune-ups, and safety checks for all types of non-electric bikes and scooters in support of Portage Elora’s mountain bike program to help introduce at-risk youth to the sport.
Firefighter to climb 110 flights of stairs on 20th anniversary of 9/11
MOUNT FOREST – Adam Wilson, a volunteer firefighter with the Wellington North Fire Service, will be participating in the Lambton College Fire School’s 9/11 Stair Climb to recognize the 20th anniversary of 9/11. He will be climbing 110 flights of stairs in bunker gear.
Elora and District Skating Club wins Skate Ontario award
ELORA – The Elora and District Skating Club has won the 2020-21 Club Award from Skate Ontario. The award is rare for a small-town skating club to receive, officials say, noting the Elora club was recognized for its hard work and dedication to members during the pandemic.

HARRISTON – Daniel Weppler, a student at Norwell District Secondary School (NDSS), has received a Schulich Leader Scholarship. The program gives students $80,000 to $100,000 to use toward their post-secondary education.

PUSLINCH – Council here has approved “on demand” mail-in voting as an alternative method of voting in the 2022 municipal election.
Puslinch wants BlueTriton water taking permit in Aberfoyle limited to five years
PUSLINCH – Council here is asking the province to limit BlueTriton’s water taking permit renewal in Aberfoyle to five years and is recommending the permit include limitations during droughts as well as mandatory annual reports. Company officials say the added requirements are unnecessary.

Puslinch officials abandon pursuit of whistle cessation agreement with railway
PUSLINCH – There’s good and bad news for Arkell residents frustrated with how the Guelph Junction Railway has been operating in their community. A whistle cessation agreement is no longer on the table but township officials say the railway has agreed to cut back hours and mitigate noise issues.
