GUELPH – After a two-year hiatus, Live at the Hippo Pool Events is delighted to revive The Nutcracker tradition in Guelph.
Ballet Jörgen returns to River Run Centre on Dec. 22 and 23 at 7:30pm with The Nutcracker.
“Once again, we are excited to offer the opportunity for local dance students to perform with the professional dancers of Canada’s Ballet Jörgen,” River Run officials say.
Nutcracker auditions are scheduled for Sept. 10. Interested young dancers between the ages of eight and 17 years are asked to register online at Canada’s Ballet Jörgen website www.canadasballetjorgen.ca.
In the weeks leading up to the performance, the selected students will rehearse regularly at Royal City School of Ballet and Theatre Jazz Inc. in Guelph.
Created in 2008, this production of The Nutcracker premiered to rave reviews.
Choreographed by Bengt Jörgen to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s well-loved score, this re-working of the timeless classic is born from a collaboration with the world-renowned McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
“Audiences embark on a grand journey through our northern lands filled with snowflakes, trilliums and woodland creatures,” states an Aug. 4 press release.
For the River Run performances, all seats are reserved.
Tickets are now on sale at the box office at 519-763-3000 or 1-877-520-2408 or www.riverrun.ca.
