The Canadian Association of Farm Advisors (CAFA) has just announced it will hold a fundraising auction on May 26 in conjunction with its fifth annual Ontario conference. The proceeds of the auction will go to support the 2009 Canada’s outstanding young farmers’ awards program being held in Ottawa from Dec. 1 to 6. Organizing committee chairman Donald Russell is delighted with the News. "Hosting the national COYF awards program requires a great deal of money, so we spend much of our time looking for sponsors. Having CAFA volunteers to do this for us not only helps us put on a better program, but also really demonstrates the commitment they have to the community."
The event is being run by Ritchie Brothers Auctioneers. Donations are being sought and more information on how to donate items can be obtained by contacting Karen Daynard at kdaynard@sympatico.ca or Liz Robertson at info@cafanet.com.
Celebrating its 29th year, Canada’s outstanding young farmers’ program is an annual competition to recognize farmers that exemplify excellence in their profession and promote the tremendous contribution of agriculture, and rural Canada. Demonstrating leadership in the agricultural industry, nominees are judged according to the following criteria:
– progress made in their agriculture career;
– environmental and safety practices;
– crop and livestock production history;
– financial and management practices; and
– contributions to the well-being of their community, province, and nation.
Winners selected from each of the seven regions across Canada, will come to Ottawa to compete for the title of Canada’s outstanding young farmer.
