Attendance up for 2014 show

A little sunshine goes a long way for any outdoor event and the Fergus Truck Show is no exception.

With the sun shining for most of the weekend, organizers were upbeat about the 2014 show held July 25 to 27 at the Sportsplex grounds.

“We were very lucky with the weather and it turned out to be a very good weekend for us. The pulls and everything went off without a hitch,” said truck show president Keith Drinkwater, adding, “There was great attendance for the demolition derby on Sunday.”

Drinkwater said derby attendance was higher than last year and Saturday crowds were also good.

“Our attendance was a little bit lower on Friday but Saturday was up quite a bit. Overall the average attendance over the weekend was higher than last year.”

The number of trucks on display was down slightly from last year, but Drinkwater said the show was well supported by those within the industry.

“While we might have been a little disappointed in the attendance we’re glad we had a really good weekend … We’re raising money for the community.

“Challenger Motor Freight came through again this year providing the Trucker Olympics, raising money for breast cancer awareness,” Drinkwater noted.

“That’s the point of the show. It’s to give the people in the industry a place to gather … it’s a chance to meet face to face. People come from all over the country. In that way it was a very successful show.”

Compiling of results from the 2014 Show and Shine had not been completed as of deadline, but the results will be posted on the Fergus Truck Show website shortly, Drinkwater said.
