Asymptomatic testing hub comes to Fergus high school next week

FERGUS – An asymptomatic COVID-19 testing hub will be set up at Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS) on March 25, 27 and 28.

Eligible students, families and staff in the area will be notified through their school.

The Wellington Catholic and Upper Grand district school boards are working together to facilitate the testing hub.

It will move weekly to locations in the region, so all students, families and staff in both school boards will have the opportunity to be tested if they choose to.

As health officials say it possible to have the virus and spread it without knowing, “Targeted testing in schools is an important layer of protection that helps to limit the spread of COVID-19,” reads a letter to parents.

The boards began asymptomatic testing on March 11 and to-date has operated two testing hubs in Guelph.

The testing will be conducted and managed by LifeLabs. The test itself should take about two minutes and results will be available within 24 to 48 hours on the province’s website.

Testing is for people with no COVID-19 symptoms. People with symptoms should be tested at a screening centre.

Appointments are not required, but to keep lines moving and allow for physical distancing, organizers are asking people to attend at different times according to their surname:
