Assault with ‘hot beverage’

FERGUS – A Fergus man was charged with assault this spring after he threw a hot beverage on employees at a local drive-thru.

Wellington County OPP officials say police responded to an assault at a restaurant on Tower Street South in Fergus on April 19 at about 8:30am.

“It was reported that the driver of a grey pick-up truck had thrown a hot beverage on two employees in a [drive-thru] window,” police stated in a July 10 press release.

“The employees required medical attention for burns.”

Richard Darchi, 51, of Fergus, was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon. He was to appear in Guelph court on May 21.

It’s not clear why it took police almost three months to report this incident to the media.
