Artists throughout Fergus and Elora will be opening the door of their studios to the public on Dec. 13 for the first Art Studio Show and Sale.
Sixteen artists from the fall Elora Fergus Studio Tour will be offering a second show for the holiday season.
“Our studio tour is always in the fall but it was just somebody’s idea to do a similar sort of thing and it just sort of mushroomed and there were 16 people interested in doing it,” said Grayce Perry, one of the artists participating in the sale.
The show and sale will take on the same format as the fall tour and visitors will have the opportunity to visit each artist’s studio and purchase work if desired.
“What I find is that often … I’ve had quite a few phone calls from people who came at studio tour and they maybe just kept a piece in their mind and then it’s like, ‘Okay, I want that for Christmas, I know somebody I wanted to buy that for,’” she explained. “So it’s really nice for people who maybe know an artist that they like and it’s a chance to go again and pick up a piece.”
By opening the studio, a second time the same season the artists hope people will be more comfortable to come back for a piece or browsing for something new.
“This gives them the opportunity to come back into the studio without feeling like they’re intruding,” said Dennis Novosad, another artist on the tour. “Because some people’s studios are, they put a lot of work into them opening them up to the public and it’s not always like that.”
Another unique aspect of the Art Studio Show and Sale is the artists are donating a portion of each sale to the Centre Wellington Food Bank.
“We just wanted to do something for the community because they’re doing a lot for us,” Novosad said.
