The Arthur Twisters competed in the first Jamie Boyd Memorial U19 Midget Fastball Tournament June 8 to 10 in Tavistock.
The 10-team tournament featured some of the top midget teams in Ontario along with a touring team of select players from Australia.
Arthur opened the tournament with an 11-1 drubbing by the hometown Tavistock A’s.
In the second game, Arthur fell behind to an early 2-0 deficit to the Shallow Lake Sting before the Twisters’ bats exploded to score five runs in the 3rd and four more in the 4th capped off by a Jarred Steckly home run.
Arthur held on for a decisive 9-2 win.
In the third game against Haldimand, it was Arthur who scored first and held a 6-3 lead into the 6th inning that saw Haldimand score 6 unanswered runs for 9-6 win.
After watching Tavistock defeat the Sting, the Twisters knew they needed to beat the next opponent (Tara Titans) to advance.
It was a closely played contest with Arthur leading 3-0 into the 5th inning before the Titans scored five runs.
The Twisters responded with two runs in the 6th to even the score and added five more in the 7th cruising to a 10-7 win to advance to the elimination round against the Australian Thunder.
The Aussies scored in every inning and held the Twisters off the score-sheet to eliminate Arthur 9-0 from the tournament.
It was an unique opportunity and great experience for the local team to play against an all-star team from the other side of the world, stated team officials.
After the game, the two teams came together to celebrate great Sportsmanship. The Australian squad went on to beat Chepstow to win the tournament.
