There’s a lot more than meets the eye in Artcetera.
For artists, it is a chance to have their artwork be seen with their peers, while for the public it is a chance to see artwork on a local, regional and national level – while supporting the Elora Centre for the Arts.
This year's Artcetera, held May 9 to 11, raised over $36,000 for the Elora Centre for the Arts.
Local, regional and national artists’ work are profiled and available for sale through a silent auction over three days and a live auction on the final night.
The work represents about 200 original works of art from both established and new artists.
Elora Centre for the Arts artistic director Tarin Hughes noted that she started with the centre last November.
Hughes said a lot of the artists participating in both the silent and live auctions are local and regional artists.
“We had a wonderful amount of people who sent in submissions this year. It was wonderful to see that amount of generosity and support for the centre.”
Hughes added the works comes from about 120 artists.
Money raised supports the centre overall, from its programs, exhibitions, educational opportunities and community programs.
Hughes sees the centre as an exciting opportunity.
Her last job was at an art gallery in Kamloops, British Columbia where her focus was mainly on education.
Even though Hughes lives in Guelph “it is nice to be part of this community.”
