James is showcasing a collection of paintings and a site-responsive installation curated by Shalaka Jadhav in 10C’s first and fourth floor galleries until Oct. 29.
The reception will be held on Oct, 3 from 7 to 9pm at 10C Shared Space (42 Carden St. ,Guelph).

In James’ series of work, landscapes and mythology are layered together, surfacing a humility and sacred respect for the unknown.
In a gesture of receptiveness to what unfolds, the large scale canvases hung across both galleries are worked in layers, walking the tension of shared and protected ancestral knowledge.
“Community shared spaces are critical to a creative, socially-focused ecosystem, and this alignment was important to me in thinking about where to present this exhibition,” James states in a press release.
“It’s an amazing feeling to see the large, mixed media pieces outside of my studio and in this space where so many groups come together.”
In the fourth floor gallery, James develops a site-responsive installation in the form of four altars, bringing to attention the edges of where the architecture of the old Ackers’ Furniture building stretches into the community space, delivering four portals of light.
“In a quickly changing arts landscape, it’s especially important to support emerging artists as they explore their practices.
“I’m very excited to support Roshan James in her exploration of site-specificity in her site-responsive installation of four altars, threading together themes of potentiality, family histories, and architectural intervention through assemblage,” stated Jadhav.
10C’s gallery is open weekdays from 9am to 5pm.
