Guelph Go Go Grandmothers for Africa are hosting an art exhibit in support of Africa grandmothers struggling to restore hope in the midst of the AIDS pandemic.
Creating Futures – Threads of Hope for African Grandmothers, a textile art exhibit featruring “creations of hope, celebration and inspiration,” will be held from April 21 to 25 at Studio 404, located at 404 York Road in Guelph.
Ilana Landesberg-Lewis, executive director of the Stephen Lewis Foundation will attend at Gala reception at 6pm on April 24, along with, Guelph City councilmembers and other dignitaries
Landesberg-Lewis, daughter of former Canadian UN ambassador Stephen Lewis, is an advocate for grandmothers who are raising AIDS/HIV orphans in Africa and has spoke on the topic several times in Guelph.
This art is on display for the week and is part of fundraiser by the K-W Omas Siskona on May 1. These 29 textile pieces have been all handcrafted by grandmothers across Ontario who entered a juried competition.
