‘Around the World in Three Fair Days’ theme of Harriston-Minto Fall Fair

HARRISTON – The 164th Harriston-Minto Fall Fair is set to take place Sept. 15 to 17.

“Around the World in Three Fair Days” is the theme of the fair, highlighted by a Tastes of the World event to be held on Saturday evening.

Senior fair ambassador Julia Gray and junior fair ambassador Lexi Drummond were selected at a competition on July 8 and will be on hand to greet visitors and participate in events during the fair weekend.

The 2023 fair begins Friday night at 6pm with exhibit halls opening and a silent auction and book sale getting underway. A Kids Village at the ball diamond will also be open Friday night, with a Houseplant Happy Hour beginning at 7pm in the auditorium (pre-registration via Eventbrite required).

Lawnmower races and a pie and pork auction round out the Friday night activities.

Saturday’s events kick off with a Light Horse Show at 9am. Exhibits and fairgrounds open at 10am, as does the Ag Awareness Building and Kids Village.

The fair parade will be held though the streets of Harriston leading to the fairgrounds at noon.

A dog show and horse pull will be among the afternoon activities on Saturday and an Explore Africa Animal Show will be held on the arena floor stage at 2pm.

The Tastes of the World in Minto event gets underway at 6pm in the arena auditorium. The event will feature food and drink samples from a variety of different countries as well as music and dance from various cultures.

Sunday’s events kick off with the popular fall fair breakfast at the auditorium, beginning at 8am. A soapbox derby will be held downtown on Elora Street at 9am. A car show presented by Leslie Motors will begin at the ball diamond at 9am and the exhibits, Kids Village and Ag Awareness Building all open at 10pm.

Carnival games – A carnival games area was popular with youngsters at last year’s fall fair.

A church service will be held in the auditorium at 10:30am.

Afternoon events include beef shows, a pedal tractor pull and a big bale rollout. The demolition derby gets underway at 2pm.

The event winds up with a pork and beef barbecue at the auditorium (takeout available) beginning at 6pm.

“Our hardworking volunteers have once again been busy finding ways to breathe new life into our small-town fair and we cannot wait to show you what we have been working on,” states Noble. 

“I want to thank all of our dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly throughout the year to put on a great event for our community to enjoy.”
