Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott is determined to push the government into supporting Groves Memorial Community Hospital.
Most recently he introduced, for the second time, a resolution calling on the government to acknowledge the community’s longstanding support for a new hospital, and to allow Groves to move forward to the next stage of approval.
“This motion makes a direct and specific request,” explained Arnott. “It says that something reasonable and sensible needs to be done now.”
His resolution was the first one to be introduced in the new legislative session, which began March 8 – the day of the Dalton McGuinty Liberal government’s throne speech.
Groves Hospital is still waiting for approval from the government to move to the next stage of planning for its new facility.
To that end, Arnott followed up his resolution with a March 10 statement in the Ontario Legislature.
“Our community expects to see progress – not hear excuses,” he said.
Arnott also pointed out that the Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) endorsed the planning grant before Christmas.
He also cited McGuinty’s comments about a ten-year hospital construction plan, which was to be unveiled last fall. McGuinty discussed it in a media interview last June, but it still has not been publicly released. Arnott brought that up in question period on March 2.
Without receiving any good answer, Arnott is wondering why the government is dragging its heels.
“Do they actually have an honest planning process, or are they just giving communities the run-around?” he asked.
