Waterloo-Wellington MPP Ted Arnott has written to Barack Obama about current American protectionist trade policies.
Arnott says the “Buy American” policy implemented in the U.S. after its banks nearly failed and its businesses were hammered by a recession “appears to be shutting out some Canadian firms from bidding on U.S. contracts at the state and local levels.”
Arnott said that is contrary to the sprit of the Free Trade Agreement. He has also raised the issue in the legislature with the premier and Minister of Economic Development.
