Ariss and Maryhill Lions to host family fun day Feb. 15

The sixth annual Ariss and Maryhill Lions Club Family Fun Day will once again be held at Gryphon Field House, 55 East Ring Road, at the University of Guelph.

This facility offers a larger space to entertain more children and their families, a larger area for bouncy castles and demonstrations, as well as many informative displays.

The food area on the main floor is accessible. There will be demonstrations throughout the day by Bears cheerleaders of Fergus and face painting for a donation by Cats Anonymous in Marsville.

This year’s Family Fun Day will be held on Feb. 15. Doors will open at 10am and close at 5pm.

Admission has not increased, remaining at $5 per person and $20 for family of five.

This annual event provides a fun venue for families with children of all ages. The success of this event, along with other Ariss and Maryhill fundraisers, allows the club to assist those in need and support Lions projects not only in the community but throughout the world, organizers state.

The Ariss and Maryhill Lions Club has sponsored its first dog guide, which graduated on Nov. 20, 2014.

The female, champagne coloured standard bred poodle named Ariss was trained as a hearing ear dog and is now assisting someone with hearing impairment in Ottawa.

The club’s second dog, a canine vision dog guide which will be named Gore, will graduate some time this year. The name, Gore, is to show the club’s appreciation and recognition to Gore Mutual Insurance Inc. in Cambridge for its grants.
