Mail delivery was expected to resume Tuesday for about 200 Rockwood area residents who had been without home delivery for about a week
Wellington-Halton Hills MP Michael Chong said he was in touch with Canada Post and assured full mail delivery would resume Oct. 11. He heard partial delivery began.
Residents living on rural route just east of Rockwood discovered last week that their mail was no longer being delivered.
“It just stopped all of a sudden. They never informed anybody,” said Jo Heyden, who has lived on the 7th Line in Eramosa Township for 31 years. “After three days I thought there’s something funny going on and when I called the post office they just said it was a health and safety issue. That’s all they’d tell me.”
Heyden said when she drove in to Rockwood to pick up her mail, she was told the new delivery person on that route had quit after two weeks because of difficulties and safety issues delivering the mail alone.
Requests were made to have a helper in the car and that was winding its way through red tape, Heyden said she was told.
Chong said an investigation is underway to determine just what happened.
“There was a problem with the mail delivery. Why? We don’t know exactly what happened. I was assured it would be back to normal by Tuesday. Anyone having any problems then should contact my office,” Chong said.
The Advertiser was unable to obtain a statement from postal officials on Tuesday.
