Tickets are now on sale for the fifth consecutive Just for Women, Just for Fun (JFW) fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Wellington (BBBS).
The event takes place April 28 at the Wellington Heights Secondary School.
It is a full-day event where each registrant will participate in three 90 minute workshops, chosen from 31 courses.
Participants will enjoy free food and beverages throughout the day, including a light breakfast, and a full lunch of salads, sandwiches, fruit, and desserts. Raffle draws and silent auctions provide “retail therapy.”
The workshops are led by professionals, and topics include gardening, home décor, fitness, relaxation, spiritual development and crafts.
They are open to all, regardless of skill-level or experience.
The event is a fundraiser for BBBS, and is headed by Marianne Pope, caseworker for the organization.
After attending and enjoying similar women-only events, she set up a volunteer committee in 2007 to help her develop a day of fun for local women that would contribute to fundraising for BBBS.
“Women need a day for themselves. We’re mothers, care-givers, workers, wives, and often we don’t take time for ourselves,” Pope said. “JFW is an opportunity to get together, network with other women, and try new things in a comfortable women-only setting”.
Pope and her committee rely on local restaurants, grocery stores, and church groups to donate lunch and snacks. The workshop leaders donate their time, and this year, the school is donating the venue.
“They recognize that proceeds go to BBBS, which is all about helping kids in the region, and that helps everyone,” Pope explained.
Local businesses donated the raffle prizes and silent auction items, including a Raleigh Mountain Bike valued at $300, and an ereader valued at over $200.
Pope credited the volunteers for making sure the day runs smoothly.
Women are encouraged to buy tickets early to get a top selection of workshops.
The early bird special is extended to March 25. Registration is extended to April 13.
Tickets are $70 and available until April 6. To register, contact 519-323-4273 or get the registration form at bbbsnorthwellington.org (click on events), or email marianne_bbbs@wightman.ca.http://marianne_bbbs@wightman.ca
