Annual Garlic Field Day on June 16

The Garlic Growers Association of Ontario is hosting their annual Garlic Field Day on June 16.

The garlic growers annually puts on a hands on learning experience at one of their members operations to see how garlic is grown, harvested cleaned and readied for market.

President Joann Chechalk welcomes everyone interested in “growing, eating or learning about garlic to come to this year’s garlic field day.”

This year the field day will be at Jeff Rundle’s farm in Mount Forest.

Steve Droog, committee chair said, “Rundle is a large grower with 20 years experience.

His entire facility will be toured and we have a great line up of speakers including seasoned garlic farmers and experts from OMAFRA and the Ontario Crop Improvement Association.

They’ll share their knowledge on a variety of topics including federal and provincial funding programs, growing conditions and diseases, and how to get market share in a competitive environment.

Everyone is welcome including new and aspiring growers. For anyone who is serious about garlic the annual Field Day is a must.”

Registration is from 9:30 to 10am. The schedule runs from 10am to 3:30pm. Registration includes a delicious lunch. The day ends with a field tour of test plots.

Cost is $50 for non-members, $35 for members, and includes lunch. Annual registration in the GGAO costs $50. Details and registration information is located on the Garlic Growers of Ontario web site at www.garlicgrowersofontario.com.
