Last weekend, the Centre Wellington Fire and Rescue Department hosted a Firefighters Association of Ontario (FFAO) quarterly meeting at the Fergus station.
The FFAO is made up of officers and firefighters from across the province that are committed to make the Ontario fire service better.
Centre Wellington Fire Chief Brad Patton explained that members of the board met on Saturday to discuss health and safety issues, education, the FFAO Convention in Wainfleet on Aug. 1 and several other important topics regarding public safety.
“Sunday was the FFAO general meeting which is open to all members and the public, I’m pleased to say we had a full house on Sunday at the Fergus station,” Patton said.
After updating the membership on the FFAO activities, guest speaker Jason Benn gave a very informative talk on barn fires, Patton explained.
“Jason Benn is quickly becoming an expert on barn fires and the impact on the community,” he said.
Benn reviewed fire prevention techniques and public education material to prevent barn fires.
He also spoke on how rural fire departments often fight barn fires and what the loss of barns and livestock mean to the farmer and to the community.
“It was a excellent presentation and well received,” Patton said.
