Officials are asking everyone to get their chores done early on Aug. 16 to join everyone “Down on the Farm” at Spirit of the Hills, Hillsburgh’s Family Fun Day.
Organized by the Let’s Get Hillsburgh Growing (LGHG) committee, this family event will take place on Trafalgar Road (Main Street) in Hillsburgh from 10am to 2pm.
For the children, there will be a bouncy castle and farm-themed games such as sheep herding, cow-pie fly, chicken limbo, and Farmer Max’s farm bowling.
At the Hillsburgh library, there will be a petting zoo on the front lawn and inside everyone will be able to learn about dairy farming from Nancy Harper, an educator with Dairy Farmers of Ontario.
The classic car show will return with the addition of antique tractors this year.
In the Hillsburgh Historical Park, the local 4-H Art Club will present Art in the Park, displaying a variety of artwork that the members have been creating during the summer months.
On the street, a variety of vendors will be selling candy, chocolate, tea, jewellery and much more. At the Guelph Storm’s Top Shot Hockey Challenge tent, young and old will be able to fire their hardest shots at the net. Pockets the clown will be creating balloon animals for the youngsters and Kent Tocher will be providing musical entertainment all day.
At 11:30am, members of the International Taoist Tai Chi Centre will demonstrate the 5,000-year-old practice of Tai Chi. At 1pm the celebrity challenge will take place. The participants – local politicians, aspiring politicians, and community leaders – will use their creativity, their problem solving abilities and their knowledge of animal anatomy to complete the challenge involving barnyard critters.
Drop by the LGHG committee’s booth to order fall decorating kits and to bid on silent auction items. Funds raised from the silent auction will go towards the LGHG Committee’s latest project: new entrance signs for the village of Hillsburgh.
These are just a few of the activities planned for Spirit of the Hills, Hillsburgh’s Family Fun Day.
Organizers say if it rains, the event will move inside to the Hillsburgh Community Centre.
