PUSLINCH – Animal remains were spilled across Highway 6 in two separate incidents in as many days here last week.
On the afternoon of Feb. 28, a Darling Ingredients tractor-trailer was transporting animal remains when they were spilled from the trailer and onto the roadway at the intersection of Calfass Road and Badenoch Street in Morriston.
A day later, another spill occurred from a Darling tractor-trailer, this time near the Picards Peanuts location in Morriston, not far from the first spill.
It’s unknown what led to either spill after emailed responses from Wellington OPP, the Ministry of Transportion (MTO) and Darling Ingredients did not yield any clarity as to what happened.
Darling Ingredients spokesperson Suann Guthrie confirmed both spills, and wrote the causes of the spills are “under investigation.”
“We take these incidents very seriously … we are prepared to respond quickly and effectively, and were able to perform clean-up activities within the first few hours of the spills,” Guthrie wrote.
According to an MTO spokesperson, Green For Life Environmental Inc. led clean-up of the remains at the Feb. 28 scene. Traffic lanes that day were reopened five-and-a-half hours later, at around 9:39pm.
Responses from the MTO and OPP did not indicate any knowledge of the March 1 spill.
