Team Canada men’s wheelchair basketball team won the gold medal in a pre-Paralympic Games tournament held in Germany recently.
Fergus native Patrick Anderson made a triumphant return to the club after a year’s sabbatical, and led the team in scoring in the final game.
The win reaffirmed that Team Canada is the team to beat heading into the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games. It was the first event since the team was selected last month.
Anderson, a two-time Paralympic gold medalist, made his return to the line-up without missing a beat. He led Canada with a 25-point performance in the championship game of the German Test Series tournament. Canada scored 18 fourth quarter points to oust Australia 65-50.
They finished the tournament with a perfect 4-0 won-lost record.
Next-up for Team Canada will be the North American Cup June beginning June 15.
The Canadian men’s team have won gold medals at the last two Paralympic Games in 2000 and 2004, and are currently ranked number one in the world.
