Always a Bridesmaid, a Jones, Hope and Wooten comedy, opens Georgetown Little Theatre’s season and is dedicated to the exploration of marriage and relationships.
The play chronicles the lives of four strong southern belles – Libby Ruth, Monette, Deedra and Charlie. Having promised to be bridesmaids at each others’ weddings, they still find themselves obligated three decades later.
Over the past seven years, Sedalia Ellicott (played by Patricia Ball) has helped them to host their weddings at her beautiful southern plantation, in some cases, several times. These marital mishaps are revealed through flashbacks as Libby Ruth’s daughter Keri (Tara McLearnon) weaves their story amid her wedding toasts.
Angela Gibson as Libby Ruth is the true romantic that holds the band together, married to her high school sweetheart. She truly believes in fairy tales with happily-ever-after endings. The flirtatious, buxom Monette (Sharonne Young) continues to go through husbands, hoping to find “Mr. Right” through sheer numbers. Deedra (Margaret Brady) is a no-nonsense judge who willingly battles anything, including transvestites, to keep her promise to always be present. And then there is Charlie (Gillian Taggart). No one expected this complaining, tree-hugging, independent woman to ever get married – including Charlie herself. But she also finds herself preparing to walk down the aisle.
