Drayton Entertainment will present an evening of music, dance, and laughter with its 16th annual Alan Lund Memorial Scholarship variety show on this Sunday at the Festival Theatre.
The popular event pays tribute to the talent of Lund, Canada’s much-loved director and choreographer, in a production by some of the finest and most gifted young performers who have graced the Drayton stage in recent years.
“We like to think of this as the ultimate cabaret – with a unique twist, as all proceeds go to scholarships awarded to deserving individuals pursuing careers in the arts,” said artistic director Alex Mustakas.
The most popular artists from Drayton Entertainment’s past and coming season will be donating time and talent to create a diverse presentation, including Broadway numbers, ballads, comedy routines, tap dancing, and more.
“Our motto is to always expect the unexpected,” said Mustakas. “That’s part of the fun, as theatregoers are able to see their favourite performers in a new light.”
Once again, popular personality Neil Aitchison will act as Master of Ceremonies, and bring his trademark sense of humour to the Drayton stage.
“This annual event is guaranteed to leave you in high spirits – it’s a real celebration for all of us,” said Mustakas. “Alan Lund was a principal influence in my life, and I know his inspiration continues to be felt in theatres across Canada.”
Throughout the course of his career, Lund influenced and inspired Canadians with his commitment to artistic excellence, innovative works, and dedication to the performing arts. The founding of the Drayton Festival Theatre was another inspired conception where Lund played a central role, as Mustakas hired him to conceive, choreograph and direct the first production for the theatre’s foundational 1991 season – the smash hit musical revue Vaudeville.
