ELORA – The Fergus Agricultural Society and Grand River Agricultural Society are partnering to hold a “Breakfast from the Farm” drive-through event on July 31 at the GrandWay Events Centre from 8:30 to 11:30am.
Breakfast will consist of a breakfast sandwich, milk and fruit for $2. There are 1,000 meals available and the event is first-come, first-served.
Fergus Agricultural Society director Rebecca Hannam explained that in past years the breakfast event was held by the Fergus society in June at a local farm.
It has not run since the pandemic, and this year the Grand River society approached Fergus officials about collaborating to host a drive-through version of that event.
“This is how we’re celebrating Food Day Canada this year,” said Hannam.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Fergus society to help make up for funds lost from event cancellations, and to assist with the planning of future Fergus Fall Fairs.
The event is more than just a drive-through, as cars will be directed through a route featuring educational displays about food and farming.
“We’re hoping to have lots of people out,” said Hannam.
Katie Giddy, director of hospitality, sales and marketing for the Grand River Agricultural Society, explained the society was looking for a way to celebrate Food Day Canada.
“Born was the idea that we’d do the drive through breakfast,” she said.
Giddy mentioned the society has a large philanthropic fund, and getting the opportunity to use it is “the absolute foundation of the Grand River Agricultural Society and all that it stands for.”
