The Wellington Advertiser accepted five Better Newspaper Competition awards at the Ontario Community Newspapers Association (OCNA) gala on April 7.
The production department received first place premier awards for In House Production and for Local Retail Layout. The team also received a second place award for Best Creative Ad.
The editorial team accepted a third place award for Most Creative “Grip and Grin” Photo.
The Advertiser also received a second place award in the general excellence category for Newspapers with a circulation between 22,500 and 44,999.
This marked the first time ever the Advertiser was recognized in its general excellence category by the OCNA. The other finalists were the Cambridge Times (first place) and Waterloo Chronicle (third place).
The category recognizes excellence in all facets of Newspaper production, including front page, community News, editorial and opinion pages, local features, Sports, advertising content and design, and classified advertising.
Judges commented the Advertiser has “a good front page, a strong editorial focus, lots of local photos and stories, excellent Sports coverage and a robust classified section. Combine that with good layout, typography and strong design, and you have a Newspaper any community would be proud of.”
Advertiser editor Chris Daponte said, “To place second in the province in our category is an honour. I hope all our readers and advertisers realize how dedicated and proud our team is to deliver a quality Newspaper.”
