Advertiser nominated for OCNA awards

The Advertiser is being recognized by the Ontario Community Newspapers Association (OCNA) for its “outstanding work.”

On Feb. 14 the OCNA announced the finalists for its annual Better Newspaper Competition awards.

“The OCNA is proud to recognize the outstanding work produced each week by our member Newspapers,” officials stated in the OCNA announcement.

For the first time, the Wellington Advertiser has been named one of three finalists – along with the Cambridge Times and Waterloo Chronicle – in the OCNA’s general excellence category for Newspapers with a circulation between 22,500 and 44,999.

As the name suggests, the award recognizes excellence in all facets of Newspaper production, including front page, community News, editorial and opinion pages, local features, Sports, advertising content and design, and classified advertising.

“The Advertiser’s large circulation (about 40,000) means we face stiff competition in our category from many Newspapers in large urban centres,” said Advertiser editor Chris Daponte.

“To be included as a finalist is an honour and a testament to the hard work and dedication by all our staff to deliver a quality product every week.”

The Advertiser is also a finalist for the following OCNA premier awards:

– best creative “grip and grin” photo;

– best local retail layout;

– best creative ad; and

– best in-house promotion.

The full list of finalists can be found at www.ocna.org. First, second and third place winners will be announced during the OCNA gala on April 7 in Toronto.
