Adopt-a-Family brings Christmas to people in Wellington County

The Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington is hoping  residents will add to their Christmas shopping list and Adopt-A-Family this season.

“The need has doubled in the five years since I started. We anticipate 700 families this year, which will mean approximately 1,800 to 2,000 children,” said programs  manager. Laurie Lantaigne.

Adopt-A-Family has been operating for 15 years, pairing families to social service agencies in need with community donors.  “Families or individuals in the community can adopt a family and then go out and do the shopping for the children’s wish list,” Lantaigne said. “We have churches, service clubs and also work groups or offices who get involved, adopting a family as a team.”

The foundation will provide only first names and number of children in a family, along with a wish list.  The goal is to provide each child with three items, one being clothing.

“People can also donate retail gift certificates, movie passes, or grocery  store gift cards,” she said.

Lantaigne hopes donors will consider parents for a small gift for them.

Donors can call the foundation at 519-829-0855 or visit the website and pair with a family at www.childrensfoundation.org. An email will be sent to the donor with the wishes of the family.

Unwrapped gifts must be dropped off by Dec. 16 at 919 York Rd., in Guelph, where they will be packaged and delivered confidentially through a social service agency.
