Activities planned for Sexual Assault Awareness Month

May is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. In an attempt to raise awareness and prevent sexual violence from continuing to impact people within the community Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis has planned various activities to engage the community in important conversations and actions for change.

Throughout the month of May there will be various activities focused around sexual violence prevention in the community.

In collaboration with communities across the country we are encouraging community members, local organizations and businesses to support No One Asks For It.  In its sixth year, No One Asks For It invites Canadians to wear purple in support of survivors, and in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

One of the biggest hurdles women face after a sexual assault is the notion that somehow they “asked for it” by what they were wearing, where they were, what they were doing or drinking. This is victim-blaming.

People can RSVP to wear purple on Facebook here: http://on.fb.me/1Qq8bAW- #NoOneAsksForIt
