On May 25 the Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market launched its opening day with a full house of vendors offering locally produced products.
The line up of farmers offer fresh seasonal produce, honey, maple syrup, a range of meats plus a selection of fresh cut flowers and bedding plants.
Vendors such as bakers, jam makers and local artisans are also included.
The Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market is always looking for ways to help local farmers grow their business and support them in bringing unique and interesting value added products to market. These products augment an already diverse mix of products and create an exciting environment for customers to shop in.
One of this season’s new farmers is Robin Thoen who will bring to the market fleece, rovings and hand spun yarns from her Bluefaced Leicester sheep. Thoen will bring her spinning wheel and be spinning yarn on site. She is an expert in this field and is a welcome addition to the arts and crafts offering.
Gardening was the focus on opening day with a Container Garden Information Booth focusing on edible plants and vegetables. Along with the education there was a veritable array of herbs and vegetable plants for purchase, as well as a vast assortment of flower planters and baskets ready to be taken home and enjoyed.
Organic pest control will also be a topic covered by the experts who can advise on the best options to deal with pests now that Ontario residents can no longer buy and use pesticides for cosmetic purposes.
The Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market is an authentic farmers’ market with farms that sell local Ontario grown produce only.
Currently all the vendors come from a 100km radius. Every vendor is vetted by AFMA (Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market Association) to ensure authenticity.
The market is open each Saturday from 8am to 1pm until the end of October.
