Aberfoyle Agricultural Society makes donation to county museum and archives

The Aberfoyle Agricultural Society has donated 163 years of records to the Wellington County Museum and Archives.

The records span the years 1853 to 2016 and consist of minutes, reports, financial statements, photographs, and Aberfoyle Fall Fair prize lists, awards and certificates.

Prize ribbons from 1914 to 1965; a tiara and sash worn by a Fair Queen were also part of this exciting donation.

“The Archives relies on generous donations from people and groups like the Aberfoyle Agricultural Society to expand the collection, and preserve and make accessible to everyone the rich history of Wellington County,” said archivist Karen Wagner.

“This is an amazing collection spanning three centuries that will be preserved in our environmentally controlled facility so that generations going forward can access these items that tell the story of Puslinch’s agricultural past.”

“The Wellington County Museum and Archives is always interested in talking to people about their items – whether it be photographs and paper records or toys, clothing or sporting equipment,” says administrator Janice Hindley.

“Our collection has been built on wonderful donations from Wellington County residents and businesses.  Recently, we acquired some incredible business records that were uncovered in local buildings during renovations. Before you throw it out, please give us a call, and we’d be happy to chat or meet at the museum or at your residence or business.”

Tax receipts for donations are issued for those items accepted into the collection.

The museum is especially looking for clothing, toys and household items from the 1970s and 1980s.
