An abandoned house in the northeast corner of the township was destroyed by fire on Aug. 16.
Firefighters responded to the call, originally reported as a barn fire, on Sideroad 20 between the 7th Line and East-West Garafraxa Townline at about 11:15pm
“It was fully involved when we arrived,” said Centre Wellington deputy fire chief Tom Mulvey.
Close to 20 firefighters responded to the call; they were assisted by a tanker and crew from Wellington North’s Arthur station, Mulvey explained.
Firefighters spent about two and a half hours on the scene, he added.
“There was no dollar loss at all – the house had been abandoned for years,” said Mulvey.
Asked about the cause, he told the Advertiser there was no electricity in the building, but there may have been lightning in the area.
“It’s still under investigation,” Mulvey said the morning after the fire.
