Two Women Productions is bringing A Book of Spells to the Century Church Theatre.
Starring storytellers Jan Andrews and Jennifer Cayley, the show will have one performance only on March 1.
A Book of Spells interweaves poetry, stories of magic realism, and of personal experience.
The poetry is taken from Gardens of Eden by Michelene Wandor; the stories of magic realism from a collection of short stories by author Sara Maitland. The tone is fierce, the content edgy and disturbing, lush, soothing, and finally, filled with delight.
Listeners will be confronted with the witch in Hansel and Gretel – still living in the forest; still, through all the ages (surprisingly) tending to young women’s needs. Then there’s the mother who gains the power (quite literally) to soar through the night.
Century Church Theatre is on 3 Hill Street, at Trafalgar Road and Station Street at 2:30pm.
Tickets are $20 and available in advance daily 9am to 9pm at the box office on Visa until Feb. 16, or call 519-855-4586.
After that, tickets are available at Erin and Hillsburgh libraries, or at the door (cash only).
