WELLINGTON NORTH – In a normal year, throughout the months of November and December, choir members from the various churches in Wellington North would be coming together to practice for the annual Christmas Cantata.
However, as organizers note, “this is not a normal year,” due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
With singing being deemed a high-risk activity, the annual concert event held in Arthur and Mount Forest has been cancelled. However, the show will go on in a virtual format.
“This year would have marked the 25th annual community cantata,” states director Derek Moore.
“So I felt we needed to do something in its place. Not only is it part of many people’s Christmas tradition, but it is an important fundraiser for our local food banks.”
This year’s online cantata, entitled Let There Be Light, is directed by Moore and produced by Klaus Seibert. It is being recorded at Mount Forest United Church featuring the talents of various soloists and duet and will be released on YouTube at 7pm on Dec. 20.
“It is my hope that people will tune in that Sunday at 7pm as they may have set aside the time to take in the usual cantata at the church,” states Moore.
