GUELPH – Police have charged a Guelph man with attempting to abduct two young girls here last week.
On Nov. 9 at about 2:30pm, an eight-year-old girl and her two-year-old sister were playing in front of their residence in the west end of Guelph.
“It is alleged that the girls were approached by an unknown adult male who asked if they wanted to go for a ride in his car,” police stated in a press release.
“When they declined, he grabbed them by the hands and began leading them away, telling them that he wanted to show them the inside of his residence.”
Police say after the man kissed the younger girl, “the older girl pulled away, grabbed her sister and ran inside their residence where they alerted their mother.”
Mohammad Ajmal, 65, of Guelph, was charged with sexual interference and two counts of attempted kidnapping.
He was held in custody pending a bail hearing and ultimately released by the courts with conditions. His next scheduled court appearance is Jan. 12.
Break-in, theft
GUELPH-ERAMOSA – Police are looking for help to identify the person(s) responsible for breaking into a home here last week.
On Nov. 11 at about 10pm Wellington County OPP responded to a break-in at a house on Cross Creek Boulevard in Guelph-Eramosa.
Police say that sometime between 5 and 9:30pm someone broke into the house and stole a backpack and jewelry.
Wellington County OPP would like to remind everyone to keep your doors and windows locked no matter the time of day or night.

Crisis averted
On Nov. 16, at approximately 8am Wellington County OPP officers responded to a report of a person in crisis in the area of Fifth Line in Guelph-Eramosa Township.
Police presence in the area increased as additional OPP resources including OPP West Region Emergency Response Team, West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit, West Region Canine and West Region Crisis Negotiators were brought in to assist.
The individual was safely apprehended and transported to hospital without incident.
Fifth Line was reopened as of 2:30pm.
Racing charge
GUELPH – A Wellington County OPP officer was monitoring traffic on the Hanlon Parkway near Laird Road in Guelph on Nov. 9, at approximately 11:55pm.
The officer observed a grey sedan travelling northbound at a speed that appeared to be above the posted 80km/h speed limit. The vehicle was clocked on radar in excess of 140km/h.
As a result, Dwayne Leshern Miller, 33, of Scarborough, has been charged with racing a motor vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act and is scheduled to appear in Guelph court on May 5.
The defendant’s vehicle and driver’s licence were seized for a period of seven days as per statute.
