WELLINGTON COUNTY – Well, that didn’t last long.
On Oct. 22 Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH) was reporting two active cases of COVID-19 in Wellington County.
The previous two days public health had reported zero active cases in the county, a milestone not seen here since the pandemic hit the area in late March.
But public health officials warned that could change fast, as the virus is still “circulating” in the county.
“People are looking for reasons to think we are back to normal,” WDGPH spokesperson Danny Williamson told the Advertiser.
“But until a vaccine is available, we have to do what we’ve been doing: wear a face mask, wash your hands, physical distance, and stay home if unwell.”
In total the WDGPH region has 48 active cases as of Oct. 22, the bulk split between Dufferin County and Guelph.
In Guelph there were seven new cases reported, for a total of 32 active cases, and two hospitalizations.
To date the region has had 787 cases and 37 deaths.
Wellington County has had 115 cases and two deaths.
Cases in schools
Positive COVID-cases are rising in schools in the WDGPH region, though to date there has been just one case reported at a Wellington County school (Norwell DSS in Palmerston).
On Oct. 22, Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School in Guelph reported its fifth case, the first of which was reported six days earlier.
Five classrooms at Holy Trinity have been closed.
