On the evening of October 16th Leone, matriarch of the Hagarty family, peacefully left this earth in her 95th year. She lived on the family farm in Peel Township all her life until her late 70’s. She was very active on the farm and devoted to her parents. Hardworking, generous and kind, Leone was typical of farm women of her era. She was as comfortable behind a tractor wheel as a quilting frame. In her later years she made the transition easily to Elora where she enjoyed the social stimulation of the town. Her door was always open and the coffee pot on. Saturday mornings she left early in her little pick-up truck to the farmer’s market where she had a stall for 30 years. Although Leone never married, she was deeply loved like a second mother by her only brother Clair’s family – Myrna, John and Maureen. Family and friends particularly appreciated her independent style and that special combination of mischief and spunk that made her eternally young. Special thanks to the caring folks at Twin Oaks, Maryhill and her great niece Tara who visited her faithfully every week bringing love, laughter and treats. Private family memorial. Donations to Alzheimer’s Society or charity of choice. Safe travels sweet lady.
