Obituary

July 8, 1919 (Chinguacousy Township) – October 3, 2020 (East Garafraxa Township). Over a century of good health and good crops. Forever grateful for a long, well-lived life but with sadness at this parting, Blanche’s family announces her peaceful passing at home, in her 102nd year. Survived by her loving children Allan and Dorothy, and many dear nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Henry (1912-1991); her parents Harold Maltby (1968) and Maggie Little (1964); sister Mabel (Ralph Maltby, Marshall Andrew) and brother Irwin (Irma Andrews, Ruth Halbert). Also predeceased by Henry’s brothers and sisters: Valentine (Dolly), Peter (Adela), Jacob (Aileen), Katie (Carl Fesser), George (Olga), Hilda, Otto (Emma) Helene (Georg Papp), Ida (Herman Barthel), and Frieda (Vern Kornelson), and several nieces and nephews. A long time member and leader in the United Church and Women’s Institute in Marsville. A tireless worker on the farm and in her home, she loved music, dancing, travelling, was a master of sewing and crafts, was always willing to try new foods and techniques, taught many short courses and 4H clubs, and made the best pies around. She was a person of faith until her death, giving daily prayers of thanksgiving for good health, good crops, her family, and being able to stay in her home that she loved. Even though it was hurtful when her declining mobility cost the independence of driving and could attend fewer activities, she maintained her interest in the seasons of the farm, her large extended family, long-time neighbours, and local organizations and events. An inspiration for aging gracefully and not being a sissie about it, she never complained, but rather said thank you after every meal and at the end of the day for the help she was given. She took great pride in having lived the longest of all her relatives so far. Sincere appreciation is given to the home care personal support workers and nurses whose skills, compassion, and good humour helped her stay at home. To keep everyone safe during this Covid period, private family interment at Huxley’s Cemetery, Hillsburgh.
