Elora Monster March Parade cancelled but other Monster Month activities to continue

ELORA – This year’s Monster March Parade in Elora is cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, other Monster Month activities will continue as planned throughout October, including the installation of Tim Murton’s Twilight Zoo animals throughout Elora and the annual Fergus Halloween Haunt Street Walk on Oct. 31 from 10am to 12pm throughout downtown Fergus.

Another offering this year is the Centre Wellington Scarecrow Walk and Gawk Tour and Contest.

The contest is open to anyone within the Elora, Salem and Fergus tourist map area (request a map by emailing halloweenelora@gmail.com).

All scarecrows must be handmade and applicants must complete an entry submission, including a note about the closest intersection to the scarecrow’s location, to be included on the scarecrow tour map and included in the contest.

Participants are encouraged to make as many scarecrows as they wish, but only one per household/business can be included in the contest.

Scarecrows must be handmade and can be any type of 3D monster, princess, scarecrow or zombie. Organizers ask that all creations be appropriate for all ages to view.

Once done, participants are asked to send in a photo of their creation. They will then be given a number to be displayed with the scarecrow.

Each scarecrow must be on the property and visible by Oct. 20 and kept in good shape until Oct. 31.

Maps of scarecrow locations will be available at www.monstermonth.ca and viewers are asked to email their vote for best creation to halloweenelora@gmail.com with the subject line “scarecrow” and the display number in the body of the email.

Organizers ask anyone viewing the scarecrow tour to follow pandemic guidelines.

Winners will be announced on Oct. 30 and are asked to send in a photo, preferably with the creators.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three winners based on votes and will be dropped off at their home/location.
