LaVerne Eldon Yost of Clifford passed away at Palmerston Hospital on Friday, September 18, 2020, in his 70th year. Brother of Garry Yost of Port Hope, Susan & Chris Weickert of Bellevue, AB, and John & Lena Yost of Waterloo. Uncle of Trevor (Rachel), Toby (Bridget), Kye, and Alex, and great-uncle of Julian and Sam. Nephew of Allan & Shirley Jackson, Keith & Joyce Henry, and Edith Henry. He will be deeply missed by many cousins and friends, especially Yvonne Robinson, Judy & Peter Buhrow, and Colleen & Bill Allen. Predeceased by his parents Elmer & Joyce (Henry) Yost. LaVerne worked for many years for Murray Construction and in retirement loved going uptown in Clifford to buy and check his lottery tickets, buy a coffee and a couple of newspapers and sit in his truck and watch the world go by, and catch up with his friends. In August 2019 he scratched a ticket that paid him a $250,000 payday which made his life easier. LaVerne joked that the winning ticket allowed him to almost break even! To see LaVerne you saw the big guy, gruff and rough with his signature beard, stache and baseball cap. To know LaVerne was to know a kind, gentle man who made and enjoyed friends for life. He loved the outdoors, he loved sports, playing baseball and fishing. Vernie we hope the fish are biting, the coffee is hot and every ticket is a winner. Love and happy journey to a better place! A private family service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2020 with interment in Clifford Cemetery. Pastor Doug Bott officiating. Memorial donations to Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated, and may be made through the Hardy-Lee Funeral Home, Harriston.
