WELLINGTON COUNTY – Crime Stoppers Guelph Wellington (CSGW) has claimed the top provincial award in its population category for the fifth year in a row.
The Marla Moon Memorial Award of Excellence (100,001 to 299,999 population) was announced Aug. 27 during the online awards ceremony which took place after the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers’ Annual General Meeting.
The event was postponed from the spring due to COVID-19. This is a record for a program to win this award five times consecutively.
The Marla Moon Memorial Award of Excellence is presented to the program that best demonstrates outstanding effectiveness in tip management, volunteerism, community engagement and media partnerships.
Additionally, the program was named the winner of Best Video, in partnership with Wightman TV; Best Radio, in partnership with Magic 106 FM; and Best Student Engagement for EPACT – Educate Parents and Children Together.
The video submission was of The River Classic Golf Tournament in September 2019 where CSGW partnered with other community agencies. The episode highlighted the partnership between the agencies, as well as capturing local residents praising Crime Stoppers and how it keeps the community safe.
The radio submission was from the May 2019 episode of Afternoon Drive with Brad where the history of the program was discussed, along with the process of submitting a tip and dispelling some commonly held myths.
This episode had tremendous feedback, include an individual applying to join the board of directors.
EPACT was recognized for identifying the youth issue of Human Trafficking, specifically Sex Trafficking and using an innovative format to have impactful conversations with youth and their parents or mentors.
This program is presented in partnership with Wellington County OPP and Guelph Police Service and is now available online.
