WELLINGTON NORTH – It has been a bumper year for deck, small home renovation and swimming pool permits in Wellington North.
“More than we’ve ever seen in a year of that type of thing,” said chief building official Darren Jones at the Aug. 24 virtual council meeting.
Councillor Steve McCabe asked whether there have been any changes in building permits as the province has reopened for business.
Jones said that in terms of permits and numbers the building department is having a “normal year.”
However, there haven’t been a lot of residential starts for new homes.
“We would normally see the big influx of applications for those in May and then again in September,” Jones said.
“So those May permits were put on hold.
“So next month we’ll see if people have decided to move ahead with those.”
The July building permit report to council states:
– permits issued in July: 34 (12-month average: 23);
– permits issued to date: 139;
– construction value in July: $3.3 million (12-month average: $4.1 million);
– construction value to date: $22.7 million;
– permit fees in July: $32,384 (12-month average: $29,282);
– permit fees to date: $175,585;
– development charges in July: $22,083 (12-month average: $39,085); and
– development charges to date: $198,777.
“As far as things are going, we’re busy and things are very steady,” Jones said.
