It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marion on August 9, 2020 in Dawson, Yukon at the age of 66. She is survived by her partner of many years Peter Dunbar, stepsons Chris and Mike Dunbar, brothers Lorne (Vickie) and Paul (Pat) Dejean, nieces Kerri Duxbury, Barb Wagg, Tammy Bettiol, and Kristen Drexler and nephews Alan and Evan Dejean. She is also survived by surrogate daughters Crystal Rose and Jessica Davies and a large circle of friends. She was predeceased by her parents Fred (Ted) and Norma Dejean of Elora, Ontario. Marion was born in Toronto on September 6, 1953 before her family moved to the bright lights of Elora, Ontario. She attended elementary and high school in Elora and was involved in many community activities including the Elora Community Theatre. She attended Conestoga College and graduated with a para legal certificate. In her spare time she could be found barreling around the area on her motorcycle and performing other renowned vehicular activities. She, along with her father and brothers, spent many wonderful months over a few years, building a cottage at Austen Lake which is located between Matachewan and Timmins in northern Ontario. It is one of her favourite spots where she and Peter still vacation years later. Marion decided to visit the Yukon for a 6 week vacation in 1981 and found her true home in Dawson. She was immediately employed in the Mining Recorders office where she spent her career serving the public and in particular, the Yukon placer mining industry. Through the years, among other achievements, she was the Mining Recorder, the Chief of Mining Land Use and the Chief Mining Inspector. She enjoyed the outdoors and the bush, first constructing a home in Bear Creek and then another at Clear Creek on the Yukon River below Dawson. She lived for the frontier nature of the Klondike and soundly embraced the social atmosphere of Dawson. Marion had a great sense of humour, was a storyteller extraordinaire and had a smile that would light up a room. She will be sadly missed by everyone who had the opportunity to meet her. A celebration of life will be held at some time in the future when conditions permit.
DEJEAN, Marion Elizabeth
