GUELPH – The Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) has altered its staggered entry plan for students returning to class.
In an Aug. 28 press release board officials stated the changes were made “in order to ensure the safety of students and to provide additional time for staffing schools.”
Revised staggered entry schedules for UGDSB schools can be found at www.ugdsb.ca/fall2020entry.
“The reason that additional time is required is due to the extension of the board’s student pre-registration period, which pushed back staffing timelines and also impacted the time available for schools to timetable and schedule appropriately,” board spokesperson Heather Loney stated in an email.
Staggered entry at UGDSB schools will take place over a two-week period:
- students in self-contained developmental programs will start school full-time on Sept. 8;
- in elementary schools, using an alphabetical model, staggered entry will begin on Sept. 10;
- in secondary schools, school reorganization will take place Sept. 8 and 9, with Grade 9 orientation on Sept. 10 and 11 and students in all grades beginning instruction on Sept. 14;
- the elementary remote school will begin on Sept. 14 or 15; and
- the secondary remote school will begin on Sept. 14.
“The board would like to thank all families for their patience and understanding as it works to ensure a safe start to the school year,” states the UGDSB press release.
