MAPLETON – Council members recognized long-time township employee Barb Schellenberger at the Aug. 11 meeting.
The meeting was the last as clerk for Schellenberger, who joined Mapleton’s staff in 2003 and previously served as deputy clerk. She is retiring at the end of August.

“I just want to say thanks to Barb for all her guidance,” said councillor Marlene Ottens, who noted that when she joined council in 2014, most of the councillors were new to the horseshoe.
“You were very helpful in leading us along, all of us green at the time, most of us anyway,” said Ottens. “So I’m sad to see you go, but happy that you can retire from a good career.”
Councillor Dennis Craven noted Shellenberger ”was always in a good mood and cheerful.”
Craven described the outgoing clerk as “very knowledgeable” and thanked her for her guidance over the years.
“I want to thank you for the time you take to sit down with me and go over the agenda, so I don’t look that bad up front at the meetings,” said Mayor Gregg Davidson.
Davidson read a letter from former Mapleton CAO Patty Sinnamon, who is currently CAO/clerk for the Township of Chatsworth.
“Barb was much more than a deputy clerk. She was my right hand gal she kept me organized, especially at agenda time. We were a well-balanced team. Barb could navigate her way through legislation, policy and procedures and she was a techy wiz,” Sinnamon states in the letter.
“Barb was that colleague you could count on no matter what. She knows her stuff,” Sinnamon added.
“I do wish for everyone to take back to their young people in their home and in their communities that there are wonderful opportunities within municipal government,” said Shellenberger.
“Thank you to everyone that has provided me with so much,” She added.
