Retirement – On June 25 Arthur Public School principal Amanda Leathem found a surprise on the school lawn. The teacher of 32-years has retired and the school lawn was covered with signs made by students and families wishing her the best in her retirement and saying goodbye and that they would miss her.
Leathem began teaching in Arthur 32 years ago and throughout her career at the Upper Grand District School Board she worked in Elora, Brisbane, Orangeville and Guelph. She then returned to Arthur Public School five years ago to finish out her career as a principal there. On June 25 staff at the school had organized a surprise online meeting where she viewed a video of students giving goodbye messages.
“It was a lovely day for me,” Leathem said. “Arthur is a special community to me as I began teaching there and I was so happy to return five years ago.”
