ARTHUR – It won’t have the usual open house flavour, nor will there be experts to take gardening questions from passersby.
But June 12 is still Garden Day in Wellington North, in conjunction with National Garden Day, and the Arthur and Area Horticultural Society has been busy beautifying the downtown core.
Terry Ireland, president of the club, said club members have been out preparing and planting garden beds over the past two weeks.
Gardens and planters
They take care of four gardens as well as 11 planters situated around the village.
Some 24 hanging baskets, sponsored by the Arthur and District Chamber of Commerce and grown by Mount Forest Greenhouses, are now up as well.
Celebration
Garden Day celebrates the community’s garden culture and history, the importance of public and private gardens, the value of home gardening, and the promotion of environmental stewardship.
