COVID-19 outbreak declared over at Strathcona in Mount Forest

MOUNT FOREST – The public health unit has declared over a COVID-19 outbreak at Strathcona Long-Term Care.

The declaration was announced as part of a May 11 institutional outbreak update by Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health (WDGPH).

The Mount Forest long-term care home was removed from the list for the first time since April 28. One staff member at the facility had tested positive for the virus.

There are no current institutional outbreaks within Wellington County.

An outbreak is defined as one or more confirmed cases of COVID-19 within a long-term care home, retirement home or hospital.

An outbreak is declared over 14 days after symptoms began in the most recent case and when no other cases are suspected.

The current WDGPH COVID-19 outbreak list is as follows:

  • Norfolk Manor, Guelph, 22 residents and seven staff members, including seven deaths;
  • Dufferin Oaks, Shelburne, four residents, six staff, two deaths; and
  • Shelburne Residence, 55 residents, 29 staff, 18 deaths (19 resolved cases).

As of May 11, there are 328 total COVID-19 cases in the WDGPH region, including 154 resolved cases and 30 deaths.

In Wellington County there are 55 cases, 33 resolved cases and two deaths.
