Dear Editor:
The new fad among politicians in the midst of this pandemic is to get your face on TV. Of course, it’s free exposure for the politicians. My problem is with what these “pseudo doctors” and alleged “nova financiers” say.
Recently, Pierre Poilievre, a Conservative MP, stated that the financial crisis could simply be solved by refunding every Canadian business the GST that they had paid during the last six months. Think about this ludicrous statement:
First, 35% of Canadian businesses are doing just fine …. they don’t need the refund . Second, seasonal businesses such as marinas, resorts, boat dealers, and lawn maintenance would not have paid G.S.T. in the last six months. Third, about 35% of the businesses would properly benefit. Finally, I’m thankful Mr. Poilievre enjoyed his five minutes of maligned glory.
